Combe Martin’s Hunting of the Earl of Rone

Joseph Bulmer

THE Hunting of the Earl of Rone came to its colourful conclusion on Monday evening in Combe Martin as the annual tradition closed in style with its grand final parade.

Throughout the weekend parties of hunters made up of musicians and eye-catching characters such as the Hobby Horse, Fool and Grenadiers had been parading through the village looking for the elusive “earl.”

On Monday his luck finally ran out and he was paraded through the streets on the back of a donkey, accompanied by the full cast of drummers, musicians and flower bearing ladies.
