Village gears up for its most eagerly awaited annual event: This year from August 6-12.

WITH just over one month to go to this year’s Combe Martin Carnival week of August 6-12, organisers are putting the finishing touches to plans for what is arguably one of the biggest carnival celebrations in North Devon.

The Grand Opening Event kicks off the celebrations on Saturday, August 6, including the popular Wacky Races.

On the Sunday is the unmissable Raft and Kayak Races, with the main Carnival Parade on the evening of Wednesday, August 10 and the riotous Wheelbarrow Race and Parade round things off on Friday evening.

“It’s been a busy few months for the organisers,” said Carnival Committee chairman Rob Schofield, “however, we’ve now finalised the carnival events to ensure there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

“Now all we have to do is hope villagers and visitors get into the carnival spirit and start planning their involvement, whether that’s making rafts, floats and wheelbarrows, or simply coming out to cheer the processions on.”

Further details of carnival events can be found in the souvenir programme, on sale now at outlets around the village. Follow updates online at or
