College Cup win for Petroc

PETROC Men’s volleyball team started 2011 with a 3-2 win over Cornwall College in the British Colleges Sports National Cup.

They won the first set comfortably 25-11, due to 13 consistent well placed serves from Connor Stallard. But then the long break from training over Christmas became apparent as they lost the next two sets 21-25 and 22-25, before a serious team discussion did the trick and they came back with better play in the later stages to win the next set 25-11 and the tie-break decider 15-8.

Petroc now face Exeter College in the third round of the BCS National Cup in Exeter next week.

The PETROC/ Academy of Beach Sport men’s volleyball team played two experienced South West League teams in Bournemouth – the current leaders Wessex/BU and third placed Yeovil Viceroys.

They produced some good volleyball against Wessex/BU, but lack of experience and with Wessex having a player from Division 1 of the National League, they were pleased to deliver a respectable, albeit losing, scoreline of 13-25, 18-25, 14-25.

Going immediately into their second game, the squad started well and took the lead, before the seasoned Yeovil players turned it around to win 3-0. But they again took comfort from a scoreline of 17-25, 15-25, 18-25.
