MARTEN Stanbury rolled back the years to score a memorable hat-trick as Clovelly put in their best performance of the season against Sporting Barum in the preliminary round of the Braunton Cup on Sunday.

One-up at the break, Clovelly went further ahead after the re-start with a fine team goal, working the ball out of defence and putting together some 20 passes before Stanbury added the clinical finish to set up a tie with Fremington.

The day before, Sporting moved into their highest ever league position - second in the Intermediate One table - with an epic 5-4 win at High Bickington.

Also in the division, a 30-yard left foot strike was not enough to save Equalizers from a 2-1 defeat against Braunton Thirds.

The long-range effort curled away from the goalkeeper and flew in off the post but ultimately, the hosts will be disappointed with the amount of chances they missed.

In Intermediate Two, Anchor Chiefs hot-shot Shayne Voisey scored all four of his side's goals in a 4-3 win at Chittlehampton Reserves.

Voisey took just a minute to score the first and despite two Guy Weatherley penalties and a stunning 30-yard strike by Bubba, his form in front of goal was the difference between the two sides.

Pilton penalty king Garry Ellis scored from the spot for Pilton Academicals Reserves in a 1-1 home draw with Torridgeside Reserves and Brendan Shaddick scored two, and Paul Herniman scored one for South Molton Reserves in an 8-3 defeat to Braunton Fourths.
