ONE of the world's finest female classical guitarists will be performing a special one-off concert in Barnstaple next week.

Beijing-born Xuefei Yang has performed in more than 40 countries and in some of the most prestigious concert halls on the planet, including London's Royal Albert Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie and Herbst Theatre in San Francisco.

A recording artist signed to EMI Classics Fei, became the first Chinese student to be awarded a full postgraduate scholarship to study at London's Royal Academy of Music and has since found global acclaim for her expanding guitar repertoire, arrangements and collaborations

Her solo recital at the Grosvenor Church on Saturday, October 16, will include works by Bach, Regoni, Chopin and De Falla and is part of a busy international schedule that this month also includes concerts in Detroit, Kuala Lumpur, Switzerland and Shanghai

The evening concert starts at 7pm and Fei is also conducting a classical masterclass at the church, from 2-4pm.

The event is being organised by local young person's music charity the Young Guitarists Fund, which is subsidising the cost of tickets to make them affordable to young people.
