Chivenor trip for Parkinson’s sufferers

Day out for local support group

PEOPLE with Parkinson’s have been given a first hand view of Chivenor’s Search and Rescue helicopters.

Sufferers and volunteers from Parkinson’s UK Barnstaple and District branch were invited to see the squadron’s two Sea King helicopters at close quarters, as well as learn about the vital work of crews.

Squadron Leader Hugh Pierce and his team took time out on Saturday morning following the squadron’s flights to assist with the M5 motorway collision in Somerset the night before, to show the group around.

The visit was arranged by the local support group, which meets in the board room at North Devon District Hospital on the first Saturday of each month from 10am to 1pm.

The man aim of the club is to provide a relaxed atmosphere where people with the disease and their carers can meet and socialise.
