REPRESENTATIVES of 13 local charities gathered at the Rotary Shop in Barnstaple by invitation of the presidents of the Barnstaple and Barnstaple Link Rotary Clubs, who handed out cheques totalling 3,925.
The money was raised by the clubs from their Rotary Shop, which was opened last summer and is run by the two clubs on alternate weeks. It takes the total so far distributed to local charities to 12, 625.
Rotarian Richard Ingram of the shop committee said: “With the ongoing success of the Rotary shop we are appealing for more stock, namely clothes, bric-a-brac and furniture etc. Unlike many charity shops, we are also able to take electrical goods, which can be PAT tested before being put on sale.
“We are also asking for any charity or local good cause with a project that needs funding to contact us. We can be contacted at the Rotary Shop in Boutport Street, opposite Butchers Row.â€
Recipients of the latest Rotary hand-out were: First North Devon Scouts, Landkey Pre-school , St John Ambulance, Tarka Child Contact Centre, North Devon Gang Show, Barnstaple Municipal Charities (Alms Houses) , Barnstaple in Bloom, Children’s Summer Club, Young Guitarists’ Fund, Christ Church Pre-school Group, the Memory Caf Lynton Barnstaple Railway Trust and Pathfield School.
