Charity launches its North Devon Big Clean competition

North Devon Gazette

Campaigners Plastic Free North Devon are welcoming 2022 with an initiative and competition dedicated to cleansing and cleaning North Devon and Torridge throughout this month.Â

And the public is at heart of it.Â

PFND is encouraging people to spend time outdoors – it can hugely benefit our mental health by relieving stress and improving happiness- and also give something back to the environment at the same time.Â

That’s where its Perform a ‘Cleanse and Clean’ action competition comes in.Â

Operations manager Anne-Marie Eveleigh said: “We would like to encourage everyone to get outside in the fresh air, whether that be a stroll in your local park, a walk along your high street, a cycle around your village or a bracing dip, and then to carry out a clean at the same time. Â

“Caring for your surroundings by just picking up one or two pieces of rubbish does make a difference.”Â

“One of our objectives is to connect people with nature,” said CEO Claire Moodie. “And this campaign does just that. In the most important decade of our time we need to inspire a deep shift in how we place the importance of the health of the planet, and everything that lives on it, and what we can all do to take action to protect it.”Â

After the success of a kids and teens competition last year which received over 200 entries, dryrobe® have again donated 3 dryrobe® Advance as prizes. This year there will be an adults’ category as well so the competition is open to everyone. Â

PFND are also using the campaign to raise awareness of their charity and will be calling for donations to help them continue to deliver their mission into 2022 and beyond. Â

How you can get involved: Â

  • Perform a ‘Cleanse and Clean’ action whenever and wherever you choose across North Devon and Torridge.Â
  • To enter the competition send a picture of the action* you have taken to: along with the location, your name, age category (Primary, Secondary and College, or 18 +) with what school or college you attend and your contact details. If you are under 16 please provide a parent or guardians contact details too.Â
  • If you have access to social media then you can share your action by tagging the charity in any posts @plasticfreenorthdevon with the #cleanseandclean and encourage others to take part and donate.Â

There is one prize for primary, one for secondary and college pupils and one for 18+. Â

The charity will be ending the month of action with a Day of Action on Saturday January 29 with individuals and groups carrying out Cleanse and Cleans across North Devon and Torridge. Â

This year's Action Day is supported by one of our Impact Maker partners Coast and Moor Coffee.Â
