Charities invited to hop aboard Barnstaple Elephant Day

LOCAL charities are being invited to pack their trunks and head down to the increasingly popular Barnstaple Elephant Day this June.

Organisers are inviting them to come along to the Square and join in with the fourth annual celebration on Saturday, June 25.

Charities can raise their own money and the only condition is that their stall or game has to have an elephant theme!

Elephant Day has grown into a community celebration of pachyderms, enabling families to be creative and have fun while learning about the finding of prehistoric elephant remains in Summerland Street in 1844.

It is now organised by the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon and will include stalls, craft workshop and a mini parade led by Lampard School samba band.

This year the day coincides with Bugfest, sponsored by Phoenix Learning and Care and both are part of the North Devon Festival.

Charities that wish to take part are asked to contact museum@northdevon.gov.uk to book a place as soon as possible.
