Proposed 1m expansion of Newport care home is turned down by North Devon Council
PERMISSION to convert apartments to extend a Barnstaple care home has been turned down by North Devon Council
Amended plans for the Park Lane Care Home at Newport were rejected by the council’s planning committee because of concerns about design, traffic problems and the development’s overbearing impact on a designated Conservation Area.
Councillors also felt that the intensification of a commercial use in a predominantly residential area outweighed the benefits of the scheme.
Care home owner Waterfall Nursing Homes spent two-years negotiating with the council over the 1million project to convert the “Caburn†apartments into 12 additional bedrooms with en-suite facilities and a new two-storey glazed link.
A previous application was refused on design grounds together with concerns about parking and problems with overlooking and landscaping.
