Hartland abseil gives annual appeal an early boost.
A GROUP of daring North Devon mums have conquered their fear of heights – and given this year’s Children in Need appeal a huge early boost.
This year’s annual BBC fund-raiser takes place on Friday, November 18 but young mums Laura Lucas, Julie Fisher, Heidi Casinelli and Sian Laughton organised a mass charity abseil on one of the region’s highest cliff faces.
They were among 30 participants – including local escapologist and magician Merlin Cadogan – who took part in the 180ft abseil at Berry Head, Hartland, raising around 2,000 for the appeal.
“It was a huge success and everyone did their abseil,†said Sian Laughton.
“There was no rain but it was very windy and Pudsey was blowing all over the place, which made the kids laugh.
“The day was amazing and the Skern lodge instructors were brilliant also.â€
