Crush, Sharp and Davey do the damage as plucky Ilfracombe get up for the fight

THERE were no slip-ups as Boca Seniors side-stepped Ilfracombe Town Reserves with a 3-1 win on Saturday.

After great wins against Shamwickshire Rovers, Braunton and Torrington in recent weeks, Boca manager Darren Todd admitted his side viewed the match with the Bluebirds as a potential “banana skin”.

Jake Crush put the league leaders 1-0 up but a typically plucky performance by ‘Combe produced a Tony Woodcock equaliser before the break.

If the first half was tightly-contested, Boca began to take control in the second and pulled away with goals by Scott Sharp and James Davey.

The two sides meet again on Tuesday night at Marlbrough Park.

Combe Martin ended the week on a high after a 3-2 win at home to Barnstaple AAC. Combe had been left licking their wounds after a 2-1 defeat at home to Shamwickshire Rovers on Wednesday night.

George Gaddes scored the only goal for the hosts, who felt they would have taken a share of the points were it not for a “dubious” penalty decision.

But they made up for it on Saturday, coming from behind to beat the Ammies with an Andros Stavrinou hat-tick.

Stavrinou chipped the keeper on 37 minutes to level the scores after the hosts had taken a fourth minute lead.

A soft shot then hit a bump and bobbled over the Combe keeper to restore the lead for the Ammies, who despite controlling the game until the last half hour, were unable to increase their advantage.

The home side got themselves back into the match with Stavrinou’s second on 70 minutes and with 10 to go, the striker won the match when he cut inside from the wing to beat two defenders and hit a hard low shot beyond the keeper.

Shamwickshire Rovers moved into second with wins against Combe Martin and Appledore Reserves but with a 14-point lead and two games in hand, the title is now Boca’s to lose.
