BOCA drop first points for a year

BOCA Seniors dropped their first league points in nearly 12 months with a draw at home to Dolton Rangers on Saturday.

The North Devon Gazette Premier Division champions were held to a 3-3 draw at the Tarka Tennis Centre, ending a winning streak that began following a 4-1 defeat to Barnstaple AAC on September 1 last year.

The result followed a 2-0 win against North Molton on Wednesday night, Giles Daniel and James Davey the scorers.

Braunton maintained their 100 per cent record and went to the top of the premier table after hitting Torrington for six at Lobb Field. Scott Maynard and Joe Seldon scored two each and Elliot Whitecross and Mark Sanders were also on target.

Ilfracombe Town Reserves also made it three from three with 6-0 wins against Georgeham & Croyde and Barnstaple AAC this week. Mark Gilfillan (6), Pete Varley (2), Carl Power (2), Reid Eccleston and Rob Taylor all scored across the two games.

Bratton Fleming tasted their first defeat in the top flight, losing 3-1 at home to Shamwickshire Rovers. Damian Green scored the only goal for Bratton, who thumped Combe Martin 9-1 on Tuesday week with goals by Green (2), Richard Elston (2), Joe Gillard (2), Marcus Mahoney, Joe Toop and an own goal.

Senior division champions Pilton Academicals made it three wins from three with a 5-1 win away to Shamwickshire Reserves on Saturday.

The under-strength Accies side came good with goals by Alex Boreham (2), James Gregory and Antony Higgs.

In Intermediate One, promoted Fremington continued their impressive start with a 4-0 win at home to Sporting Barum. Wayne Parkhouse hit a hat-tick and Matthew Ford was also on the scoresheet.

Luke Oliver scored for Braunton in a 1-1 draw at home to Putford Reserves.

In Intermediate Two Shaun Hastings scored two and there were singles for Joseph Barker, Darren Reeks and Darren Smith as Anchor Chiefs saw of North Molton Thirds with a 5-1 win. Danny Bain scored the only goal for the Stags.

Dale Russell scored for leaders Barnstaple FC in a 1-1 draw at home to second-placed Torridgeside Reserves side that thumped Pilton Academicals Reserves 6-1 in midweek. Adrian Sealey and Sam Pett both scored two on the night, with the other goals coming from Robert Holland and Mark Sussex. Alex Boreham found the net for Pilton.

Hartland Reserves picked up their first three points of the season in a topsy-turvy 6-5 win at home to Bratton Fleming Reserves. Jack Coleman, Richard Davey, S Heard, Liam Reynolds and Charlie Wickfield scored for Hartland, while Maurice Charley (3) and Steven Kingdon (2) were on target for Bratton.

Charley also scored two in an 11-2 Wednesday night home win against South Molton Reserves. Neil Tweedie (4), Kevin Shaddick (2), Richard Elston, Mark Bithell and Jason Lewis added to the rout.
