Westbury are no match for Lewis, Leon and co

ILFRACOMBE Town eased their way into the quarter-finals of the Les Phillips League Cup with a 4-0 win at Westbury United on Saturday.

Shaun Lewis scored two and Steve Holland and Leon Taswell scored one each as the Bluebirds made it into Thursday’s draw without getting out of second gear against the Division One side

With Scott Huxtable rested, new signing Jake Crush was given his first start.

The former Witheridge player put in some good work on the left wing to help set up Lewis’ first on 15 minutes.

The second goal came on the 30-minute mark, Lewis squaring to Holland, who applied the cool finish.

Ilfracombe felt they should have been awarded a penalty for a foul on Crush in the first half; but when Holland was up-ended after the break, the referee awarded the spot kick, which was successfully dispatched by Taswell.

With 20 minutes to go it was 4-0, Lewis running onto a loose ball to smash home a shot from 20 yards.

Barnstaple Town extended their unbeaten league run to seven games with a 2-2 draw at home to Corsham Town.

Barum needed a late equaliser from new signing Kyle Bassett to snatch a point after the visitors looked to have won the game with a Kris Beasley goal 10 minutes from time.

Bassett, a former Exeter City first-year professional has spent time on-loan at Bideford this season; but the young striker came to Barnstaple’s rescue when he found the top corner with three minutes to go.

Earlier, Danny Jones had given Corsham the lead inside 10 minutes before Ricky Marinaro equalised from a free-kick with 25 minutes to play.
