An 80 mile cycle to the event the day before the race did nothing to stop Iain Hindes of the North Devon Tri Club from putting on a blistering performance in Burnham on Sea’s inaugural Olympic distance triathlon.
He stormed home to win the event by more than four minutes in an impressive time of 2 hrs 4mins 24 secs.
Clubmate Jim Murray was also on fine form, finishing in 2.24.06 and Chiara Magarotto was fifth female overall and winner of the female 30-39years category in 2.39.21
While competitors at Burnham had sunny skies and competitors at Harlyn Bay, Padstow, were forced to resign themselves to a duathlon after rough seas and strong winds made the swim too dangerous.
The event was changed to a 5km run, 40km bike and a final 10km run.
David Spencer led home the North Devon Tri competitors in a time of 2.35.54, with Sean Macauley finishing in 2.3.38 and Jonathon Fairhurst in 2.57.01.
Steph Hulford was one of only a dozen women to complete the course and finished in 3.35.10.
