Blazing Sounds would love to hear from new recruits

AN Ilfracombe institution is hoping to recruit new members to help it flourish for another 30 years.

The Blazing Sounds band is now open to people of all ages from experienced musicians to enthusiastic novices who would like to join a traditionally structured band.

Formed in 1979 as the Ilfracombe & District Youth Band, Blazing Sounds is still keen to retrain young people at the heart of its 30 year tradition, but now adults are also welcome.

The band meets to practise every Thursday at Ilfracombe College and 1 a week will include the long term loan of instruments and uniforms plus tuition.

The Training Band for younger and new members practise from 6-7pm and then the main band practice is from 7-8.45pm.

Instruments available include brass, woodwind and percussion – and although those with a musical background are welcome, so are those who have never picked up an instrument.

The band is a familiar sight at public events and functions around North Devon, but especially in Ilfracombe and during the summer months at events such as the Victorian Celebrations and carnival.

Organisers are keen to attract new blood to the band, because many of the current members are reaching the age where they will be moving on to university or entering a career.

Anyone who wishes to join or would like to go along to a practice session to find out more can call bandmaster Emma Nottage on 07805 387473.
