Big win boosts South Molton

SOUTH Molton boosted their points-for column with a 51-13 victory over St Columba.

It all seemed to be going well for the visitors in the first quarter of an hour, two Luke Richards penalties had them in front and they looked comfortable.

Then second row Paul Walters was forced off injured and with no replacements making the journey the visitors played the rest of the game with 14 men.

Ruthlessly South Molton made their numerical advantage count, exploiting the inevitable gaps in St Columba’s defence to run in nine tries.

New winger Aidan Irving was first to cross for the home side but it was his fellow winger, captain Courtney Lucas who stole the show with four tries.

Dan Smith, returning from suspension at No.8, scored two tries with other efforts coming from Jamie Stoneman, and Luke Doyle.

Molton are away to second-placed Topsham this Saturday.

Ilfracombe continued their perfect start to the season in Devon Two with an 88-0 demolition of Plympton Victoria.

Most of their points came from Dan Wheeler’s five tries and fly-half Dan Brierley who chipped in with two tries and nine conversions for a personal haul of 28 points.

Sam Woolacott also enjoyed a good day, helping himself to a hat-trick, while captain Leo Cooper (2), Will Grant and Dave Griffith also crossed the line for the home side.

The Brimlanders visit Tamar Saracens this Saturday.
