Bideford’s shield hopes alive, but only just

BIDEFORD Rifle Club’s dreams of retaining the Kynoch Shield remain alive, but only just.

The trophy holders this year entered three teams to try and hold on to their title and all three won their first round matches.

But the B and C teams were both beaten in round two after each had one score disqualified – under the competition rules the last scoring ring which can count on each target is the six ring, so any shots which fall outside that ring are discounted and the card is disqualified.

The A team, however, had a narrow victory over one of their strongest rivals, Fonthill, winning their second round match by just one point.

Bideford A 598 beat Fonthill 597; Bideford B 493 lost to Tavistock 590; Bideford C 492 lost to Pinhoe A 597.
