CALUM Duhig scored a try hat-trick as Bideford U7s showed themselves to be quick learners in a double date with Barnstaple.

Barnstaple won the opening encounter 55-35, but were held to a 20-20 draw in the re-match.

These were Bideford’s first competitive games this season and the first time many of the players have ever played a match.

The try scorers were Duhig (3), James Figes, Grace Cotgreve and Ben Scarrett with two tries each and Rupert George and Oliver Hedden with one apiece.

BIDEFORD U8s had mixed fortunes in a round robin against Barnstaple and Bude.

Bideford won their first match 30-15 against Barnstaple A team.

Bude were 25-15 winners in game two and Barnstaple B 35-0 victors in the final game of the day.

In the other outstanding game Barnstaple defeated Bude 40-25.

Try scorers for Bideford were Matthew Lewis, William Walkey, Adam Leworthy, Samuel Picillo and Jacob Stevenson.

Bideford’s rry scorers were Sam Copsey, Zac Wheaton, Scott Incledon, Reuben Faulkner, Man of the Match Josh Down, Tom Hakin, Thomas Thorne and Hayden Gosling.

BIDEFORD U13s lost 39-5 to a dominant Cullompton side. Noah Stevens scored the consolation try.
