Bideford shots gain good wins in two leagues

BIDEFORD Rifle Club’s four teams in the Devon County Winter League would have had a clean sweep in Round 9 of the competition, but one member failed to shoot his card in time and that team was denied a win.

The A team had the best score in Division 1 and now lie in third place at the halfway stage of the league. The B team is fifth in Division 2 and the C and D teams are equal third in Divisions 3 and 5 respectively.

Individually, Martin Morgan has slipped to second place in the overall championship, but only one point behind the leader, while Ann Travis is now in third place in the ladies’ table and Pete Thomson third in the veterans’.

Scores for round 9 were: Bideford A 491 beat Paignton A 481; Bideford B 479 beat Braunton 474; Bideford C 379 (one member did not shoot) lost to Exeter 454; Bideford D 460 beat Lustleigh B 442.

There were some excellent results in Round 6 of the North Devon League, with Bideford club members sitting at the top of all the individual championship tables.

Pete Thomson leads both the overall championship and the veterans’ table, Ann Travis is at the top of the ladies’ table and Alex Raymont leads the juniors.

Bideford’s A team is leading Division 1 and hoping to regain their title after last season’s runner-up slot.

With a score of 394 out of 400 they had the best team score in Round 6, easily beating Tiverton A.

The B team had a narrow win over their own bogey score, the D team beat their bogey by a good margin, and the E team beat Pinhoe E by 5 points. The C team shot over their average, but were unlucky to come up against Pinhoe C’s best ever score. The F team, with one shooter short, lost heavily against Sidbury B, despite a maximum 100 by Bart Kelly.

Scores for Round 6 were: Bideford A 394 (Martin Morgan 100) beat Tiverton A 379; Bideford B 385 beat Bogey 384.82; Bideford C 380 lost to Pinhoe C 391; Bideford D 381 beat Bogey 375.4; Bideford E 373 beat Pinhoe E 368; Bideford F (Bart Kelly 100) 268 lost to Sidbury B 381.
