Bideford Nippers make big medal haul

Bideford Bay Surf Lifesaving Club youngsters put in great performances at the Devon Nippers Ocean championships held at Saunton beach.

With only 23 competitors, the club was by far the smallest group. But they came home with no fewer than 49 medals.

Olivia Sayer led the way in the 11 years girls events, taking six medals – three gold and three silver, while Sam Pile took three golds in the boys’ 8 years section.

Medal winners were: 8yrs girls- Sophie Evans, sprints silver. 8yrs boys -Sam Pyle, wade, sprints and flags gold. 10yrs boys - Miles Miller, wade silver; Adam Tobin, flags silver and sprints bronze. 11yrs girls - Holly Coles, golden Nipper bronze; Molly Pennington, 1km run gold, swim bronze; Olivia Sayer, board race, sprints and flags gold, 1km run, swim, and golden Nipper silver. 12yrs girls - Rachel Coles board race, golden Nipper silver; Nancy Pennington sprints and flags gold, 1km run silver. 12yrs boys - Jack Jarvis, flags and sprints gold; David Miller, swim gold, board race and golden Nipper silver. 13yrs boys - Noah Stevens, 1km run, swim, sprints bronze.

In the team events the 10/11yrs girls won silver in the board relay and sprint relay and bronze in the Taplin; the 12/13yrs girls took bronze in the sprint relay; and the 12/13yrs boys won silver in the board relay and Taplin.
