Bideford Rugby Club is gearing up for the new season across all age groups and the girls teams are on the look-out for new players.
There are a variety of teams already established at Bideford RFC and a wonderful opportunity for those with previous rugby experience or players new to the game to join a club committed to developing youngsters.
“We have a fantastic set up in Bideford, with some great successes over the past few seasons and would love to welcome anyone who either has experience or even none at all, and just wants to see what it’s like,” said coach Steve Tricker. “All are most welcome!
“We have four junior girls teams (U12 – Year 7, U14 – Years 8 & 9, U16 – Years 10 & 11 and U18 – Years 12 & 13), all of which have all types of ability, experience and fitness levels.
“Training is on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm at Bideford RFC. If they’d like to find out more, or even join us for fun pre-season beach training, please contact us Sarah-Jane Palmer on 07972 728000.
“From a personal point of view, it’s been a real pleasure seeing the girls’ confidence and skills growing over the past season. Rugby aside, they have made some wonderful friendships and enjoyed some great experiences.”
On the adult side of the club, Bideford men’s first-team will be playing in the Counties 1 Tribute Western West League following the restructure of regional rugby. The Chiefs will also take part in a new Cup competition that guarantees at least an additional five fixtures.
There is a home pre-season friendly scheduled against Newton Abbot on August 13 and the real thing kicks-off with a trip to Cullompton on September 3 and then on road again to Pirates Amateurs the following week.
The first home game in the league will be against Wiveliscombe on September 17 before a return to Cornwall to take on Falmouth. There will be a traditional Boxing Day showdown at home to Barnstaple and the Chiefs finish their league campaign at home to Cullompton.
