Bideford end Wellington’s home record

BIDEFORD won 13-7 at Wellington to snatch the Somerset side’s unbeaten home record in the Western Counties Division for the season.

But it was a close-run thing with Bideford taking a 13-0 lead before Wellington rallied - but again left it too late.

Bideford’s Olly Wickett scored the only points of a close first half with a penalty and then slotted over a second on the hour.

Josh King stretched Bidford’s lead with a crucial try which Wickett converted.

Welly were eventually awarded a penalty try and Mark Nichols added the conversion points.

Bideford are at home to lowly Exeter Saracens this Saturday.

TORRINGTON slipped deeper into the Cornwall & Devon relegation mire when Pirates Amateurs defeated them 44-5 at their Penzance homed.

The Pirates led at half time 25-0 with four tries and added a further four tries in the second half, as well as being awarded a penalty try.

Torrington never gave up and scored a well deserved try in the second half following a series of forward drives, the try being scored by No.8 Mike Wigley.

Torrington are at home to Plymouth Barbarians this Saturday.

ILFRACOMBE had little trouble cantering to a 32-0 win over spirited Plymouth Argaum in Devon Two.

As ever Argaum’s defensive efforts impressed and the home side, admittedly looking rusty in their first game back after Christmas, were limited to one try - scored by hooker Jay O’Byrne - before the interval.

Inevitably the second period saw the visitors tire enabling ‘Combe to run in four more tries and seal a bonus point.

Centres Matt Thomas and Dan Wheeler both went over for tries before some surprisingly nimble footwork from prop Lee Robinson saw him weave past three defenders to play in Jake Thompson for the bonus point score.

O’Byrne’s second try of the match then rounded off a comfortable victory.

Ilfracombe and South Molton are both without league games this weekend.
