Bideford boxers in Brixham bouts

TWO Bideford boxers gave good performances at the Brixham ABC club show on Friday night.

Keir McKinnon took on the taller Liam Allen from Poole, but overcame his opponent’s reach advantage, rolling under his long shots to counter with telling combination shots of his own to run out a unanimous points winner.

Ben Owen was matched against Craig Charnock of Launceston for a second time, having lost a close points decision to the Cornishman at Bideford’s own recent tournament.

He was caught in the opening round by a few good lefts from his taller and longer-reached opponent, but came back strongly in the second and made a real battle of it in the final round.

But once again the majority verdict between these two closely matched boxers went the way of the Launceston man.
