AN application to list old buildings at Fremington Army Camp has been turned down by the Secretary of State.
There are fears that the decision by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, could open the door to large-scale redevelopment of the camp, which closed in 2009.
Fremington area district and county councillor Rodney Cann, said: â€œI am disappointed that this request has been refused as I understand that some areas of the camp have historic significance.
â€œMore worrying is that this does open up the site to the possibility comprehensive and large scale development.â€
