Barum climb the Toolstation table with 3-2 win on the road

BARNSTAPLE TOWN continued their climb up the Toolstation Western League table when they extended their unbeaten run to eight games on Saturday with a 3-2 result away to Radstock Town.

They are now seventh in the Premier Division list, just three points behind North Devon rivals Ilfracombe.

Separated by just one point at the kick-off, a close encounter was anticipated at Radstock on Saturday and so it turned out.

Radstock were the first to strike in a match fought out in heavy conditions, Chris Miller tapping in after just five minutes.

The same player had a good chance to double the home team’s lead shortly afterwards, but this time he shot over the bar.

Tables then turned as Billy Hopcroft pulled Town level on the half-hour and by the break they were looking comfortable at 3-1 up.

Kyle Bassett hit an impressive number two, firing home into the top corner from 20 yards to give the home keeper no chance.

Then Stuart Davis curled another into the net right on half-time.

The second half was less exciting, although Radstock had a couple of chances before ensuring a nailbiting finish when Liam Watson pulled a goal back in the late stages.

Barnstaple have a tough test this Saturday with the visit of second-placed Bishop Sutton to Mill Road.

Fourth-placed Ilfracombe have games in hand over all the teams above them following cancellation of their scheduled match at Brislington on Saturday due to the weather – in fact Bitton are the only team in the division to have played fewer matches.

They return to action this Saturday with a trip to Hallen.
