BARNSTAPLE Swimming Club’s U19 water polo team travelled to Paignton for their penultimate Devon League game of the season with the bare minimum seven players.

But they eased to victory 11-2, Cory Lawson top scoring with three goals and the others shared by his brother Haydn Lawson, Mike Taylor, Nick Moore and Sam Wordley.

Two days later they gave a disappointing display at home to Exeter and went down 12-4.

The visitors almost immediately won a penalty decision then extended their lead to two goals before Cory Lawson struck twice.

Pete Bull peppered the Exeter goal, but without success, and by the final quarter Exeter held a 6-2 advantage.

Matt Bull was brought out of goal to liven up the attack, but despite goals from Jack Sherboune and Charlie Elliott, the Barnstaple side conceded another six on the break as they pressed forward.

Barnstaple U15s entertained league Exeter.

By midway through the second quarter they were 6-2 behind, but pulled back well to 6-4 at half-time.

Five more goals to Exeter’s three had the game finely balanced going into the final quarter and neither side was able to score again, leaving the final scoreline 9-9.

Sam Wordley top scored with 6 goals and there were others from Tom Clarke(2)and Will Hutchens 1.
