Barnstaple packers are forest friendly

BARNSTAPLE-BASED Atlas Packaging Limited has been awarded a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody Certificate, one of the packaging industry’s most significant environmental accreditations.

FSC is an independent organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. Attaining its Chain of Custody Certification ensures that Atlas Packaging can demonstrate it uses only forest products derived from sustainable sources and verifies them through the production chain from forest to store.

Jason Sharman, managing director of Atlas, which specialises in the design and manufacture of corrugated packaging, said: “As part of a company-wide programme of environmental positive investment, the FSC certification process has helped us to strengthen our sourcing policies and comply with public and private procurement policies where FSC is the preferred option.

“We are clearly demonstrating to our customers, both large and small, that we use responsibly produced raw materials. This accreditation provides the link between responsible production and consumption and thereby enables our customers and consumers to make socially and environmentally responsible purchasing decisions.”

Preparing the business for certification was managed by quality manager Stuart Wilcox who added: “We needed to attain rigorous standards of compliance at every level of production before we were audited. We were delighted with the outcome and to be recognized as socially and environmentally positive manufacturers.”
