Art on prescription goes from Ilfracombe to Bideford

Joseph Bulmer

THERAPEUTIC artwork created by students on the new ECOMind Art on Prescription programme has been displayed in Ilfracombe.

The finished products of the 10 week course, which uses art to help those suffering from depression or anxiety, were put up on the wooden hoarding surrounding the old arcade site on the seafront.

The programme is designed to raise self esteem and create a calming atmosphere in which to develop new skills, in this case taking inspiration from the Ilfracombe coastline through a series of outdoor sketching workshops.

Through these they gained confidence and skills in creating artwork using pen, paint and photography.

A new ECOArt on Prescription programme starts on Thursday of next week (April 28) at the Burton Art Gallery in Bideford at 12.30pm. It is open to those aged 16 and over.

The programme follows in the footsteps of Petroc’s successful Art on Prescription which was proven to lower stress and anxiety and has helped many people.
