A fire that destroyed Glen Tor Hotel in Ilfracombe last month has been confirmed as an arson attack by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue.
Call handlers received over 30 calls from locals who spotted smoke and flames billowing from the derelict property on April 22.
Crews from 14 fire stations across North Devon, Mid Devon and Exeter worked throughout the night to put out the blaze which was started deliberately.
Devon and Cornwall Police has now launched an investigation to find those responsible for starting the fire, which destroyed the Victorian hotel in Torrs Park beyond repair.
A spokesperson for the police said: “The fire is being treated as arson at this time. It is believed to have been started between 2pm and 5pm on Friday 22 April.
“Police are appealing for witnesses and asking for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious around the time of the fire to contact them via email@example.com .uk or by telephone on 101, quoting crime reference CR/034573/22”
