Emmerton Court: In the return leg of their semi-final Saunton Vets beat Downes Crediton 4 � - � to win 6-4 on aggregate and progress to the final against Thurlestone at Churston Golf Club on Monday, October 3. Ian Buchanan and Dave Baglow halved , Joe Ertman and Danny Wallace won 2 and 1 , Richard Beer and Peter Besnard won 2 and 1, Peter Dunstan and Tony Warren won 3 and 1, John Gillings and David Barker won 2 and 1.

Royal North Devon

IAIN Parker and William Williams of the Royal North Devon were among five pairs who tied at the top of the Virgin Atlantic PGA National Pro-Am Championship qualifier at Saunton Golf Club.

But they just missed out on the trip to Las Vegas for the grand final of Europe’s biggest pro-am event at the Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort in Nevada on December 5-6.

Five paiurs returned five-under-par rounds of 66, but it was Mike Simpson-Jones from Chesham in Buckinghamshire and Julian Goodman, the PGA professional at Maidenhead’s Winter Hill Golf Club who won through to the final on countback thanks to an impressive back nine.

Veterans captain’s away day: Forty seven members played at Trethorne Golf Club in captain John Cresswell’s away day and raised more than �150 for the captain’s charity North Devon Hospice. Playing in teams of four, with two scores to count, Christian Marshall (17), Graham Clark (5), John Eland (18) and Dave Miller (10) were runaway winners with 93 points. Second were a three-man team comprising Kevin Caris (9), Dave Williams (22) and Roy Nicholls (22), who received three courtesy shots each and returned 85 points to pip Dail Lewis (18), Hilton Cole (19), Maurice Clifton (24) and Bob McDermott (20) into third place with 84. Nearest the pin prizes were won by Wes Floyd and Peter Jefferies.
