Great Torrington

CHARITY GOLF DAY: Torrington Cavaliers downed their swords and picked up golf clubs for the first of what is hoped to be an annual charity golf day. Played at Torrington Golf Club, the event saw Cavaliers teamed up with club players for a Pinehurst Greensomes competition. Twenty players enjoyed a good spirited and very close game, with club member Keith Beer and Cavalier Bernie Wittram scoring 40 points to take victory on countback.

Royal North Devon

Devon Golf Week: As part of the activities, the Royal North Devon Golf Club is launching its second Search for a Star campaign. This X-Factor style programme is designed to encourage youngsters from all over North Devon to get into golf. Royal North Devon is offering four free scholarship memberships to the most promising youngsters who attend two ‘try golf’ sessions to be held at the club after school on April 27 and 29. The sessions will be from 4pm-6pm and anyone between the ages of seven and 14 is welcome to attend and give golf a go for free, regardless of experience or ability Royal North Devon juniors have had success nationally in recent years, with juniors winning the English Golf Unions National Skills Challenge grand finals at Woodall Spa.

Veterans Team Whisky Competition: 1, Alick Welton, Ken Braund, Robin Butcher and Maurice Clifton 70 pts; 2, Pat Bowrey, Dave Pedler, Fred Bird and Derek Fogarty 68. The event raised �40 raised for the Captain’s charity, the North Devon Hospice.

Veterans Qualifying Roll Up: Sixty seven members took part. Results – 1, Kevin Caris (10) 36 pts; 2, Mike Elliott (18) 35; 3, John Eland (18) 35; 4, Richard Tuckett (15) 35.

Emerton Court county knockout: RND veterans will meet Honiton and will be travelling there for a practice round shortly.
