JIM Prince carried off the Dick Howes Trophy at Mortehoe and Woolacombe Golf Club, awarded for the best eight out of 12 Stableford scores.

He took first place with a score of 299 points, an average of 37.37. second place went to Vic Squires with 291 and a 36.37 average and third to George Parker with 286, average 35.75.

The Royal North Devon Golf Club New Year’s Day fourball team event produced a winning score of 89 points for Neil Crombie, Alan Mackie, David Lloyd and Mike Elliott.

The Hogmanay mixed foursomes brought victory for Val Cook and Ollie Tanton with an impressive 36 points – two points ahead of the field.

The only event to escape the Christmas snow was a three-ball team event on December 27.

Winners were Jim Richards, Sam and Patrick Bowrey with 65 points – two better than their nearest rivals.

Christmas threeball: 1, P Bowrey, S Bowrey and J Richards 65pts; 2, L Webster, S Cox and N Evans 63; 3, J Mullen, P Griffin and G Ford 63.

New Year fourball: 1, N Crombie, M Elliott, D Lloyd and A Mackie 89pts; 2, E Hearn, N Cripps, J Richards and J Richards 87; 3, J Mullen, K Hutchins, C Worthington and M Jones 85.

Hogmanay mixed foursomes: 1, V Cook and O Tanton 36pts; 2, M Purdie and D Miller 34; 3, J and J Richards 34.

Royal North Devon veterans concluded their 2010 programme with a roll-up competition which attracted 30 entries.

Playing off an 11 handicap, Alan Mackie went out in 39 gross - just 3 over par - and returned 39 points to be a clear winner.

There were four cards returned with 37 points. Maurice Heather (22) came second, followed by Bill Greetham (23). Losing out on the prizes were Hugh Bone (16) and David Lloyd (5).
