Fishermen end a run of six games without a win with a 2-1 victory in their final game

APPLEDORE finished the season on a high with a 2-1 win at Exmouth Town in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League on Saturday.

The Fishermen’s first win in six games came courtesy of first-half goals by Aaron Harper-Penman and Tom Harper.

Exmouth pulled a goal back after the break through Jamie Moore but Appledore held on for a win that looks to have secured them at least a seventh place finish in the Division One (East) table.

In the Premier Division, Richard Blake scored twice as Witheridge beat second-placed Bodmin Town 2-1 on Monday night.

On Saturday Withy were beaten 3-1 at Bovey Tracey. The visitors went 1-0 down through left-back Nick Barker’s rasping drive but pulled level in the strangest – and briefest – of circumstances.

Striker Steve Edby attempted to play a drop ball back to Bovey keeper Tom Buckler but the ball found the net instead. To their credit Witheridge stood aside to allow Ben Gerring to run through and restore the Bovey lead.

Gerring had to work a little harder for his second goal on the hour mark, but found the space to power home a header from a Steve Orchard corner to make it 3-1.

Withy finish their season at bottom side Wadebridge Town on Saturday.

Holsworthy were beaten 4-0 at Porthleven in the Division One (West) on Saturday. The Magpies fish their season at home to Truro City on Saturday but will finish the season 10th in the table.
