Fishermen begin 2011 in pole position

APPLEDORE started the New Year on top with a 3-2 win at Bickleigh on Monday.

The Fishermen went two-up inside 25 minutes thanks to goals by Richard Hevingham and Giles Daniel.

The visitors pulled one back from a corner kick before half time but Aaron Stevens restored the two-goal cushion 15 minutes after the restart.

Bickleigh scored a second with a minute on the clock after Appledore were caught in possession but a “pleasing” win was never really in any doubt for Geoff Copp’s side.

On Thursday, Perry Carpenter scored the only goal for Witheridge in an 8-1 defeat at home to Premier Division leaders Buckland Athletic. Withy are at home to Elburton Villa on Saturday.

On New Year’s Day, Holsworthy lost 4-1 at Plymstock Untited despite taking a 10th minute lead through Craig Allin. The Magpies, third-from-bottom in the Division One (West), travel to second-placed Newquay on Saturday.
