North Devon Gazette

Bideford ABC hosted an action-packed night of boxing to a sell-out crowd at Hartland Parish Hall. There were 14 bouts on the bill, with 11 featuring Bideford boxers.

Dylan Burston faced a tough challenge against Dylan Ruck, who is trained by World Champion Joe Calzaghe. Ruck himself is the current Welsh Middleweight Champion and a three-time World Kickboxing Champion.

Burston started sharper though, leading off with his double jabs and landing bombs behind it, rocking Ruck on several occasions in a dominant first round. In the 2nd, Burston’s body shots started taking the wind out of Ruck forcing him to drop his guard.

Midway through the round, he wobbled Ruck, forcing a standing count. Burston went up a gear, firing away with big shots to secure the early finish with a technical knockout win for the Bideford Boxer.

Jackson Passmore put in a punch perfect display of boxing winning all three rounds against Kobe Barnes from Devonport ABC. Kai Avery took the unanimous points win against Matt Peters from St Just, while ounger brother Jed Avery continued with his aggressive style again beating Sam Holmes from Saltash.

Andy Mitchell and Jamie Rowe was the fans favourite fight of the night, a super heavyweight local derby with both boxers from Hartland, with Mitchell coming out on top. There were also wins for Harley Pugh and Leo McMenamin.

Conor Mcintosh is currently in a hard training camp with just over four weeks to go until his fourth professional fight at Plymouth Guildhall on July 2.

The Bideford-based professional Light Welterweight has made a perfect start to his career in the paid ranks, winning all his fights so far as he is climbing the rankings fast.

He said: “I feel I have settled into the pro ranks well and have yet to lose a round, this will be my last four-rounder and then I will be looking to up the rounds and work towards a Welsh title. I was born in Port Talbot and this would fill me with great pride to achieve this.
