Eden Project performance for Rejoice the Voice

REJOICE the Voice community choir, based in Barnstaple, were in Cornwall over the August Bank Holiday to sing at the Eden Project 10th anniversary.

Fifty singers from the choir, along with friends and family, entertained the crowds on what developed into a wonderful weekend.

“It was the first time that many holidaymakers had experienced such a spectacular”, said one of the choir.

Rejoice the Voice were formed 18 months ago and has gone from strength to strength. They have performed at the North Devon Festival of Choirs and in the North Devon Festival. They have also raised funds for charity by singing in Barnstaple, Torrington, South Molton, Georgeham, Braunton and at the Littleham Festival. They have also been invited by local radio to perform on air.

Their choral director is Jackie McGowan Hayes who is a singer with local acapella trio Three’s Company as well as being an experienced vocal arranger and teacher. She regularly runs popular and world style singing workshops. She believes in the sensational power of group singing, bringing people together to express joy and celebration through song.

“Choirs are places where people from all walks of life can come together, regardless of ability or experience, to have fun and to create a sense of community,” said Jackie

There is no audition and the choir is open to anyone who wants to sing. They are appealing for more women, young people and men in particular to join them and swell the numbers of people experiencing the joy of song.

Rejoice the Voice meets on Wednesdays at the Castle Centre, Barnstaple, in term time and all are welcome.
