Bluebirds hit double figures in Woolsery rout

ILFRACOMBE Town Thirds were in rampant form against Woolsery Reserves on Saturday.

The Bluebirds hit double figures with a 10-1 win against the second-from bottom Intermediate One side at Killacleave.

Daniel Wright topped the scoring with three goals and there was a brace for Sam Gater. Jamie Prideaux, Mark Lancey, Ryan Welch and Tristan Leech all added to the rout, ‘Combe’s biggest win since an 8-1 mauling of Sporting Barum last month.

Leaders Fremington continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-1 win at home to Hartland.

Goalkeeper Jamie Pow left his own 18-yard box to dispatch Fremmy’s first goal from the penalty spot.

Phil May and Andy King increased the lead to 3-0 before Hartland’s Richard Davey pulled one back from the penalty spot towards the end.

Second-placed Merton were held to an unlikely 1-1 draw at home to Northam Lions Reserves, Glenn Waghorne finding the net for the visitors.

There was no upset in the game between Northside Atlantic and Sporting Barum, the Bideford side running out 5-1 winners thanks, in part, to a Matt Cann hat-trick, including two from the spot. Vinny Bott added two to Northside’s final tally.

High Bickington continued their good start with a 4-1 win at Clovelly and Equalizers followed hot on their heels with a 4-1 win against AFC Anchor.

An injury resulted in an early appearance for veteran Equalizers playmaker Adrian Lynch, who scored either side of an Anchor goal. Darren Floyde finished off a good move to make it 3-1 and Floyde turned provider with a cushioned header at the back post for Nico Pfieffer to volley home.

In the division’s other results on Saturday, Landkey Town beat bottom side Putford Reserves 3-2, while Braunton Thirds put three past Woolacombe & Mortehoe without reply at the Meadow.
