150 players in schools’ tourney

SIXTEEN teams took part in a football festival run by PEDPASS and Bideford Blues Junior Football Club at Sandymere, Westward Ho!

One hundred and fifty young players came from schools at West Croft, St Mary’s, St Helens, Clovelly, Instow, Kingsley, Bradworthy, Hartland, Woolsery and Appledore.

All teams played a minimum of four matches, which were ability grouped, resulting in most being evenly contested. As results were not collated, individual matches were more important than finding an overall winner.

Bradworthy and St Helens were commended for the quality of their play and Joe Wines in the St Mary’s goal produced a string of fine saves.

Seven out of the 12 pupils at Clovelly represented their school. Because of their size, they rarely take part in events like this and, after showing steady improvement throughout, won their final game. As it is likely the school will close in July, their players can be proud to say they were among the last to represent Clovelly School football team.
