A photographic project to chart landscape changes has been launched in Westward Ho! by the North Devon Coast AONB.

It is part of the Trans-national CORDIALE Project, a project in partnership with other Protected Landscapes in the South West and in France, examining how the landscape continue to change and how the AONB designation may have helped conservation.

Westward Ho! is the pilot area as it has experienced dramatic landscape change over a short period of time.

“Over the five years we have been photographing the AONB at Westward Ho!, there have been significant landscape changes,” said project officer Dave Edgcombe.

“These range from the Fullabrook across the estuary, to the settlement at Westward Ho! which demonstrates well landscapes changes over time.”

The project uses the team’s Fixed Post Photography position on Northam Burrows, which has been capturing images and recording landscape change in the area since 2007. The research will also include archive photographs.

Changes will be recorded by landscape specialists who will document what has occurred over a period of time. In addition, people can take part in both an online survey and exhibition at Westward Ho! this winter.

The team are keen to borrow archive photographs of Westward Ho!, particularly of the seafront and Kipling Torrs area, especially from the 1960s.

Pictures can be send to or call Dave Edgcombe on 01271 388536.
