Week long run of Agatha Christie classic ends as the best the Queen’s Theatre has ever seen.

A North Devon passion for Agatha Christie murder mystery plays has helped the Queen’s Theatre in Barnstaple break its box office records.

The Mousetrap has just finished a six day run with an extra twist in its already twisty tale by becoming the theatre’s best selling week-long drama ever.

The Queen’s traditionally hosts an Agatha Christie run each year and it always proves popular with customers, with the top eight best selling shows coming from the pen of the well known crime writer.

But The Mousetrap has topped them all with a sales rate of 82 per cent, beating the previous record of 81 set in 2010 by Witness for the Prosecution.

“We know how well loved the Agatha Christie shows are here in North Devon and to continually have such huge support from the genre’s fans is brilliant,” theatre director Alan Dodd.

“However, this year we’ve broken a Box Office record which is truly special. We know that we are hitting the mark when our audience figures grow and that we’re providing the right variety of shows for the people of North Devon. Thank you to all of those who came to the show and for their continued support and don’t forget, never reveal ‘whodunnit’.”

The Mousetrap also snared another milestone while in Barnstaple, when drama student Victoria Bishop became the 500,000th member of the audience.
