Popular youth street dancing lessons coming to Barnstaple shopping centre
A Torrington-based dance group is holding classes in Barnstaple’s Green Lanes shopping centre to promote health and fitness through dance to young people.
Streetz Dance Crew will be holding the sessions for five to 16 year-olds every Saturday at the Shed, starting this week, with classes being held for three age groups.
Streetz Dance classes are designed for youngsters of all abilities to be active and have fun as well as learning discipline and giving them a purpose.
Crew leader Amy Avery said: “The opportunity to bring our Streetz Dance classes to Green Lanes is fantastic. The Torrington classes have been very popular and the crew members have gone on to have a lot of success, competing at the World Street Dance Championships three years in a row.
“I’m really pleased that we will now be able to give more young people in North Devon the chance to discover street dance and show them that keeping fit can be fun.”
The classes at Green Lanes are part of centre owners British Land’s Corporate Responsibility Initiative, which aims to support local communities.
Green Lanes Centre Manager, Jan Dayman, said: “We are delighted to be hosting Streetz Dance classes in the Centre. It is a fantastic community project with really positive outcomes for Barnstaple’s young people. The community is at the heart of everything we do so we are very proud to support great local groups like Streetz.”
The classes start at 9.30am. To find out more about the classes, visit greenlanes.co.uk, ‘like’ Green Lanes Shopping Centre, Barnstaple on Facebook and ‘follow’ @shopgreenlanes on Twitter.
