TALENTED artists at Ilfracombe Academy have been busy showing family, friends and the community some of their work at the school’s annual art exhibition A Private View.

Parents and various guests visited on Thursday evening to enjoy an impressive tour of work by sixth form A and AS level art and photography students, as well as work from younger age groups.

Head of art Jeff Lawson said the annual exhibition was aimed at everything the students had done during their past year, with many of the pieces on display counting towards their final grades.

In a display that would not have shamed a commercial art gallery, there was a varied array of work on show, from the students’ original creations through to paintings, prints and drawings inspired by the work of famous artists.

“We don’t do this because we want to show off, it’s about the students family and friends being able to see what they have been doing over the last year and a chance to celebrate that,” he said.

Mr Lawton said from next year it was hoped they might be able to forge further links with galleries in the town and take some of the work out to the wider community.
