The Sam Dowden Trio will be playing Twin Towers @live in Malaysia alongside Christina, Craig David and Rick Astley.

NORTH Devon musicians the Sam Dowden Trio are jetting off to Malaysia this month to perform at an international concert featuring the likes of Christina Aguilera and Craig David.

Sam Dowden from Braunton, Ed Humphries from Combe Martin and Sam Mayo from Woolacombe will be appearing at Twin Towers @live in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, March 29.

The free two day concert will see Christina Aguilera, Craig David and Lifehouse perform on the Friday, followed by the North Devon trio, Rick Astley and Rain on the Saturday.

They will also be playing at a street party on March 23 and a Mercedes S Class launch on March 25, in conjunction with the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix being held that week. Plus five more shows at the Shangri La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

In an amazing coming together of events, the Asian tour has been organised by Lawrence and Isabel Khoo, who own the Chill Bar in Ilfracombe High Street.

The well known local musicians often play music at the bar, both as part of their own shows and at weekly open mic nights, but they couldn’t have imagined that would lead to a ticket to Kuala Lumpur.

“Isabel and I had always hoped one day we would be able to promote a musician or band to Malaysia and over the years we had talked to our friends in Kuala Lumpur about this,” explained Lawrence.

“Finally last year, a promoter called Linda D Azmi visited us in Ilfracombe and we had our Thursday open mic which was hosted by Sam. It was a long shot, but we asked various musicians to attend and had our fingers crossed.

“She loved Sam and in some of the songs he was accompanied by Sam Mayo and Ed Humphreys, who are brilliant in their own right. They are a great bunch of lads with enormous talent and deserve every success.”
