North Devon’s scouts off to World Jamboree in Japan

A scout from Braunton is one of only three young people from North Devon chosen to go on the adventure of a lifetime to Japan next year.
Maddi Harrison, 13, with Jacob Francis and Sam Ley from North Devon has passed a selection process to attend the 23rd World Scout Jamboree, at Kirara-hama.
Joining them from Torridge will be Abigail Stone, Alex Watling, Hannah Presswell, Peter Pawson, Katie Norton, Abigail Johnson and Samuel Cairns.
The trio will be part of part of 2,400 Scouts and Guides travelling from across the UK to join some 30,000 from 150 countries around the world.
Each of the 36 Devon contingent has to raise £3,300 and Braunton Academy student Maddi has been busy selling cakes at school, a car wash, beetle drive and other events.
She has organised a concert with Chivenor Military Wives and Barnstaple Male Voice Choir, to take plce on Saturday at the Isaac Hall, Braunton Academy, with tickets available from J&S Wensley’s newsagents in Braunton or Ken Beevers on 01271 813917.
