Archant

Well known local folk performer at Shammick Acoustic concert in Combe Martin on Saturday, July 28.

‘DEVON Incarnate’ is how the performer at tomorrow’s (Saturday, July 28) Shammick Acoustic Concert in Combe Martin has been described.

Highly respected local folk singer and musician Jim Causley brings a repertoire deeply rooted in the soil of his native Devon and has a name that will be familiar to many local audiences.

The monthly Shammick Acoustic concert is held as ever at the Pack O’ Cards pub in Combe Martin and starts at 8pm.

Jim has become renowned for his warm, rich singing voice, his gift for interpreting songs, plus a wry and cheeky stage presence. From ballads to broadsides and stories to tunes on the accordion, all are presented with a relaxed air to charm the hardest of hearts.

He has earned the respect of the greatest luminaries of the folk scene, working on Martyn Wyndham-Read’s ‘Song Links’ project, and touring for six seasons with Waterson-Carthy for their annual ‘Frost and Fire’ Christmas show.

Jim has twice been nominated for the BBC Folk Awards and has recorded three solo albums, plus no less than eight with the likes of Devil’s Interval, Waterson-Carthy and Mawkin, and made guest appearances on eight others.

Yet he still finds time to play with the Dartmoor Pixie Band, talks to local WI clubs and join his village wassailing tradition on Twelfth Night.

Tickets for Saturday’s concert are £7 at the door, or £6 in advance from the Pack o’ Cards or Pets’ Pantry in Combe Martin. Alternatively visit www.shammickacoustic.org.uk for ticket information.
