‘The camper van cook’ is releasing a new book this month packed full of adventure, beautiful photos and mouth-watering recipes for two rings.
From seaweed baths and dream roads to coasteering and scuba-diving off the coast of Scotland, the new book by ‘the camper van cook’ is about so much more than just recipes.
Following the success of his first book and BBC television series, One Man and his Campervan, Martin Dorey’s new book, The Camper Van Coast, is the result of an adventurous food-fuelled journey around the country.
Martin will be celebrating the launch of his new book by appearing on BBC Radio Two with Steve Wright on Thursday.
“I think there’s a real lifestyle element to this one,” Martin said. “People have said they really enjoyed the quirky little things, from finding the best beaches, a list of great places to watch or try big wave surfing, and even tips on foraging and finding your own food.”
Martin, from Horn’s Cross, travelled the length and breadth of the country to research and write the book, which holds an inspiring collection of 95 recipes designed for two rings.
The book has a big focus on seasonal dishes, and is divided into five sections, starting with preparations for the camping year ahead and exploring all the seasons until it concludes with Christmas dinner in the van.
The quirky design and beautiful photos of both tantalising dishes and North Devon scenery will ensure this book is a well-thumbed favourite on any campervan or camping trip.
Martin said: “There are so many recipes I love in this book, but some of favourites are the Canarian seawater spuds, and the chorizo and bean stew; it’s like a new take on sausage and beans.
“I drove more than 5,000 miles around the UK to write, photograph and research the book, including a wild goose chase to find the UK’s most remote chippy on the Isle of Lewis; a trip during which we rode the country’s oldest roller coaster, watched dolphins, saw some amazing beach art, and my daughter even broke her arm.”
The book also includes recipes by Sarah Rendell, a top food editor who has worked extensively on Delia Smith’s books and shows, and a competition to win a campervan or campervan equipment.
The Camper Van Coast will be out on April 12 and available from all good bookshops.
