THE Torrington Players are inviting communities in and around the town to a series of roadshows to commemorate the centenary of the Great War.

The group is staging Oh What a Lovely War on Armistice Day in November, but before that local people are invited to get involved and share stories or reminiscences inherited from those who went to fight or stayed to keep the home fires burning.

Actors and singers will regale with snippets from the show and familiar wartime songs will be sung, plus tea and cakes served.

There will be something for everyone and the hope is that people will get involved in working towards the November production doing research, needlecraft, woodwork, IT, and publicity as well as acting and singing but overall telling their stories.

Every family, household and individual who lived through those years was touched by that terrible conflict and The Torrington Players would love people to go along and share those stories to produce a truly memorable, community show.

Great Torrington Community School and its feeder schools have also been invited to take part in an evening of related performance to be held in show week during November.

Five performances of Oh What a Lovely War are planned around November 11, and the third, on November 13, gives the evening over to the children and young people to present their own contribution.

Torrington Players have offered quality amateur drama for well over thirty years and were recently awarded The Wilfred Roe trophy for Stage Décor, through the auspices of NODA, for last December’s production of .Female Transport.

* The roadshows take place this Saturday at Roborough Village Hall from 2.30pm and then at St Giles in the Wood from 4pm. On Saturday, April 12 the group will be at Langtree Village Hall at 2.30pm and Little Torrington Village Hall at 4pm.
