All Things Morris plus the North Devon Street Food Awards will be taking over Ilfracombe this Saturday and Sunday (July 12-13).
MORRIS mania will descend on Ilfracombe this weekend with crowds expected to turn out to enjoy the return of All Things Morris.
The quirky and free festival is joined in its second year by the first ever North Devon Street Food Awards, as vendors battle it out to see who is crowned champion.
This year 13 Morris dance groups from North Devon and beyond are visiting Ilfracombe to fill the streets with their colourful capering and lively music. Don’t miss Dennis the Morris Horse.
The fun all begins at midday on Saturday with dancing along the seafront and the pier, with a mass dance at 4.30pm led by Town Crier Roy Goodwin.
The Street Food Awards also begin at midday, with all manner of mouthwatering cuisines on offer, from hot dogs and barbecue to Thai, Mexican and Caribbean.
They hope to catch the judges’ eyes, or stomachs, as they compete for cash prizes and special individually hand crafted trophies called ‘Maurices’ from Ilfracombe’s Shoreline Glass.
Judging the food will be Dez Turland of Brend Hotels, Nick Cooper from Salt Media, Gloria O’Connell and Arlene Collins from Marsden’s Cottage Holidays, plus Rich Evans from Blue Frog Media and Graham Harris of the North Devon Gazette.
Sunday will see more Morris dancing around the seafront, plus have a go yourself with workshops from 9am run by The Great Caper at Ilfracombe Table Tennis Club in Fore Street.
The street will be closed to traffic from 10am, with a Craft and Arts Fayre, mass Morris dance at 3.30pm and music and entertainment into the evening.
The classic side of Morris will be revealed on Sunday with the arrival of Morris on Tour as a collection of the iconic vehicles forms up on the seafront, with judging and presentation of prizes at 3pm.
