If you live in North Devon or are visiting the region this February half term, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy! Whether you’re looking for a family day out near Bideford, interesting walks near Barnstaple or creepy crawly fun in Torrington, there is something for everyone – here’s our pick:

Live Lambing at The Big Sheep, Abbotsham

Forget watching Lambing Live on BBC Two, visit The Big Sheep at Abbotsham from February 12-21 to watch the resident ewes giving birth before your very eyes.

The family attraction near Bideford has its team of resident midwives on hand, and lucky visitors may be able to witness the magical moment themselves.

Free events at Arlington Court

Arlington Court will be providing plenty of free activities for all the family this February half term.

Julia Bigham, head gardener at Arlington Court, said: “With the warm, wet winter we’ve had, the timing of plants seems to be in disarray.

“We had snowdrops showing before Christmas, our first daffodil at the end of January and the grass just won’t stop growing.”

On Wednesday, February 17, join in a free drop-in den building and fire lighting day from 11am-3pm.

And on Thursday, February 18, enjoy a free ‘pips to plants’ event from 1.30-3pm.

Discover scuba diving

Ever fancied trying out life under the water? Easy Divers will be launching two discover scuba diving sessions in half term.

On February 15, 18 and 19 there will be sessions at West Buckland School pool at 10am-12.30pm and 1.30-4pm.

There will also be a session at Torrington Pool on February 17 from 1.30-4pm.

Sessions are open to everyone aged 10 and over who can swim independently, and cost £40 per person. To book and for more information, please call 07833 020424 or email info@easydiversnorthdevon.co.uk.

Creepy Crawly fun at RHS Garden Rosemoor

Head out to Torrington and discover the secret life of insects from February 13-21 at RHS Garden Rosemoor.

Throughout the week you can learn more about creepy crawlies, view them up close under the microscope and become an Insect Inspector for the day.

The week will culminate with a special Ugly Bug Ball from 2-4pm on Sunday, February 21, with fancy dress, bug games, dancing and free face painting.

Visit the Festival of Love, Bideford

February half term will see the Little White Town of Bideford turn red for Valentine’s Day.

Shops in the town will dress their windows to the theme of Disney couples and children and adults alike can vote for their favourites.

Bideford Pannier Market will be hosting a special food and craft market that Saturday, with live music, from 8am-3pm.

And on the same day, Bideford Library will be hosting a ‘love bugs’ drop-in craft session for children from 10am-midday.

Activities for young children

Visit the North Devon Leisure Centre in Barnstaple for lots of activites for children this half term.

Sessions include tumbling teds for 6-18 month-olds, right up to mini movers for under fives.

There are also pool parties, swimming lessons and soft play in Bumpers Backyard.

  • Hi all ! Is the diver in the picture above a Freemason ? Or does he just enjoy using the symbol 666 ? Are the gazette team supportersworkers of freemasonry ? Does the population of Devon support ,agree with and trust secret societies ? Shall we have a meaningful debate on the subject ? I think not ,you don't want people waking up up to reality and having real fundemental change and a better future for us ,"all people" and the end of tyranny and enslavement by those that claim to serve us .
